Medicaid Waiver/Prevocational Services

Helping others to help themselves

  • Close Supervision
  • Personalized Program
  • Boosts Self-Esteem

DSC_0001Medicaid Waiver / Prevocational Services - share similarities with WAT and EES, yet it differs widely too. As in WAT and EES all participants must meet certain criteria. All have a disabling condition, are unemployed, and are 16 years of age or older. Another commonality is that all are responsible for personal care needs, must be able to self-administer any requisite medications, and must not have current behaviors that may be injurious to self or others. A sponsor to pay established fees for a specific time period is also a must.

The Medicaid Waiver / Prevocational Services is a more intensive service in which the ratio of staff to employees is much greater. This allows closer supervision and more one-on-one opportunities. The greater limitations experienced by Waiver Program participants require this higher support level.

Though their support needs are greater, Medicaid Waiver / Prevocational Services participants are situated in different areas of the plant, intermingling them with other employees on the work floor and at breaks. The emphasis is on maintaining a 'normal' daily routine for all.

The methods used to assist participants vary case by case, as services are fine-tuned to meet specific needs, but they share common points. Each individual in Medicaid Waiver / Prevocational Services is offered as wide a variety of tasks as possible. This helps to determine specific problem areas, be they fine motor skills or following two-step instructions, for example. Each is encouraged to face each challenge positively and strive to reach goals that they themselves help develop.

The Medicaid Waiver / Prevocational Services program can enhance the lives of participants. It helps bolster a sense of positive self-worth, as participants become productive citizens and learn how they can overcome the hurdles in their lives.
